Grooming Tips for Men’s Facial Hair

Whether you sport a clean-shaven face, a bit of scruff or a full-fledge lumberjack style beard, we have a few tips to help keep your facial hair and skin feeling great.

For the “Clean Shave Club”

For those of you at home who prefer a clean shaven look or are required to keep a close shave for work, here are some tips to prevent razor burn. The first thing we recommend is to look at what type of razor you are using and how often you replace the blades. Shaving is an exfoliant, so if your blades are getting rusty or you have buildup that won’t rinse away, it’s time to replace the razor.

Another tip we can’t recommend enough is using an aftershave. Not only do they smell great, a good aftershave helps moisturize and soothe irritated skin.

For the “Team Little Bit O’ Scruff”

Maybe you find yourself in more of the casual beard care group, and the amount of scruff you are rocking depends on the day. We love the casual vibe, but we hate the itchiness that comes along with it. Don’t be fooled into thinking beard care products are only for those with significant-sized beards. The best thing you can do to reduce the itch is use a beard oil. Beard Oils help soften the hair and moisturize the skin to cut back on any discomfort. A little bit of beard oil goes a long way, so you only need a few drops in your palm to gently massage into your facial hair and skin.

For the “Full-Fledged Beard Club”

If you don’t find yourself in the “Clean Shave Club” or on “Team Little Bit O’ Scruff,” then you must be rocking the full-fledged beard. You’ve ditched the razor and made it through the itchiest days and now have this great beard, but it doesn’t stop there. Good beard health requires a little extra effort to keep it clean, hydrated and if it’s your thing, tamed.

Our first recommendation is to keep it clean. Your beard surrounds your mouth and can harbor bacteria. Be sure to use a gentle cleanser that doesn’t dry out your beard or your facial skin.

We also recommend brushing or combing your beard daily to help keep it under control and prevent breakage. Lastly, try using both a beard oil and a beard balm. Both have great moisturizing properties. Beard oils are great for closer to your face because they will also moisturize your skin. Beard balms are great for the lower part of your beard because they help provide hold and tame those hairs that have a mind of their own.
