What Sets Us Apart: Production
The “What Sets Us Apart Series” is about being transparent about our practices here at American Provenance. We want to share with our supporters, and potential supporters, what it is that makes us American Provenance and what we value as a company.
It might not seem like a very interesting topic, but we are passionate about production. American Provenance started in a shed of a 4th generation family farm in Blue Mounds, WI. At the time a few small melters were bought and a humble team of three took to making deodorants and other personal care items by hand.
In-house production, as opposed to contract manufacturing, is something we value for many reasons. One of the main reasons is that it creates jobs, which benefits the local economy. As our company grows, it provides more opportunities for American Provenance to hire more people to keep up with the demand of products. While contract manufacturing also requires some human bodies, a lot of production can be done by machines without needing much oversight.
Another reason we prefer in-house production is because we have more control over our products and don’t have to wait on contract manufacturers to get our products ready. Many companies have “wait lists” for products because they run out of them and don’t have control over when they will have them back in stock. We have much more control over what products we make and when we make them. If our inventory of a certain product is low, we plan production around that.
